Preparation & What to Expect

Before implantation, patients undergo ECG, echocardiography, blood tests, and occasionally Holter or EP evaluation. The procedure is done under local anesthesia with mild sedation. A small incision is made near the shoulder, and leads are placed through a vein into the heart, or the device is implanted through the femoral route in leadless systems.
